NBHS Volleyball Team gives back to community

Congratulations to our NBHS Volleyball Team on having a successful season to date! With the season half way over, our team has been performing well and working hard in their practices, building upon their previous successes and learning new techniques. Coach Devyn Tompkins is confident that, with the way they have been performing, the team has a great opportunity to win the district and continue on in the Regional Tournament.

While the Volleyball Team has been having a successful season, they’ve also been having fun together -- on the court and off. NBHS is impressed with and proud of the team’s commitment to community service, giving back to the community in a variety of ways.

“Community service is important for our team,” says Coach Tompkins. “It allows us to come together as one, not only within our team, but with the community.”

The team began the year with a Kindergarten Kickoff for Bullitt County Schools, where they were invited by Mrs. Sherri Bishop to attend and help with the face painting station for incoming kindergarteners.

“Our team loved it just as much as the incoming kindergartners did,” says Coach Tompkins. “It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to give back to our community here in Bullitt County.”

The team will also be donating to Roo’s Wish, a charity that aims to improve the journey of foster children. Roo’s Wish collects stocking stuffers for Christmas, school supplies, shoes, luggage and blankets, and more. The Volleyball Team has donated to Roo’s Wish for multiple years, collecting requested donation items to help give local foster kids a great Christmas.

The Team also gave back to the faculty and staff at North Bullitt by providing them with a snack basket, as a way to thank them for their continuous support of the Team and their members on a personal level.

By participating in community service, the team is constantly reminded of their ideology: We Before Me.

Coach Tompkins says, “This ideology has been used within our program for a couple years now. The significance is the idea that the team comes before an individual.”

We can see that ideology come to fruition not only within the team on the court, but off, as they are excited to give back to their community in fun and creative ways. We are proud of our Volleyball Team for committing to one another and all of us. Please remember to wish them good luck in the remainder of their season!
